No Family is Immune to Mental Illness

No family is immune to mental illness.

Everyone knows someone who has a mental illness.

Why do we cover up or try to keep the big secret that we have someone in our family who has a mental illness?

Why….why…why?

Why do we want to hide our loved ones and throw them away like garbage instead of getting them the help that they need to live life the best way that they can.

Do you understand?

Then one day when they decide to shoot up a school, a business, a church  and take several people with them to end their lives do we then think about…”Oh what happened?” we ask. But as we look back at their childhood we find several signs that the little child felt unloved and no one truly understood them or wanted to help them deal with the mental Illness and try to control it to not get out of hand. Everyone with a mental illness does not kill or use and abuse people.

Why do we give up on them and not try to love them and help them as much as we can?

I just don’t understand.

Everyone should be treated like a human being.

Do you really believe that someone with a mental illness does not want to be loved and cared about like you do? It starts in childhood to be able to live life the best you can if you have a mental illness. If it is not dealt with as a child then it can get way out of hand as an adult. As time passes and the mental illness is ignored and not treated then the anger, rage, depression sets in and we lose lives but not only the person with the mental illness but several other people’s lives are taken in the process in some cases.

Do we want people’s lives to continue to be lost or do we want to educate ourselves on what mental illness is and how we can help stop the loss of life?

Don’t you want to be loved and praised for what you do well in life and not always put down for the bad things that you do?  Do you want to always hear that you will never be anything or that you are not good enough? Yes, you know what I mean. It is something that is not always seen.  But this is very damaging to anyone let alone to someone with a mental illness.

Yes, no family is immune to mental illness. Let’s wake up and not ignore that everyone is a human being and wants to be loved and cared about. Let’s learn how to help and not hurt someone who has a mental illness.  Because if you hurt then you may get hurt back.  If we want the hurt to stop then we all must work to take away the hurt by not ignoring that mental illness does exist and that it can be treated. One of the biggest things that I have found is to not argue with someone who has mental illness because all it does is escalate the problem and anger to get way out of hand and that is when someone can and will get hurt. If you calm yourself down then that can also calm a person with the mental illness. Show that you do love and care about them. Get them the help that they need. And parents don’t ignore if your child is diagnosed with a mental illness. Get them the help that they need while they are still young to help to avoid problems in the future.
